  • flickers of light before the electricity went off
  • candles provided dim but adequate passage
  • evenings of digital withdrawals
  • duty free dinners
  • bottoms in lawn chairs on the front porch talking
  • nights of hot sticky not very good sleeping
  • surprised people to find the alarm clock has a battery back-up
  • seconds in an ice cold shower
  • mornings without a freshly ground cup of coffee
  • daily papers left unread
  • way too early arrivals at work
  • days of make-up in the rear-view mirror
  • sad faces when the garage door was unresponsive yet again
  • times Willi flipped off NiSource as we drove by their home office
  • cheers as we rounded the corner and saw porch lights shining bright
  • flashlights that we won’t be needing after all

What a creative post! I have to get those flashlights ready for winter!

You really don’t appreciate how much you depend on electricity until the power goes out. It’s even worse for me, because if the power goes out I’ve got no water either as I have pressure pumps.

Sorry about your power loss. It was much longer than ours. After awhile it isn’t fun any more. I mean setting on the couch in the dark was some fun until the creek was over flowing and that meant the basement was next … time for water work.

two(too)funny…this post…but two days without power unless you are camping is two too many

“Two mornings without a freshly ground cup of coffee”

So that’s what hell must be like… 😉

oh no how to survive without all our luxuries, would be so lost without me computer, nevermind the kettle, the lights the tv etc. hope you are all powered up now

I am sorry that this is two times this summer that storms have caused problems at your house. The flashlights will come in handy someday, hopefully not for future power outages.

  8. Michelle Says:

WOW! It really went out for two days? That’s amazing.

We were very fortunate. Our storm passed over us and I don’t think the power even flickered.

    Glad you’re back!

  9. Very creative post! This is not a good time of year to lose power in Arkansas. We have been having a record breaking heat wave.

  10. Cazzie Says:

Love this thought provoking post…as usual 🙂

  11. Tink Says:

Two years ago we lost power for a week and a half due to a hurricane that grazed us. It was MISERABLE. The three things I missed the most (besides the obvious AC) were ice, hot showers, and having food in the fridge. We ate a lot of cold speghetti-os that week.

  12. Tink Says:

And by “cold” I mean room temerature.
