What I Really Want

This week’s words are Want and Green
thanks to Tink over at Pickled Beef.

This weekend we paid a visit to Luers Tree Farm. It’s become an annual event for us to tromp through the fields to find that perfect tree. This year it was a little colder than last, but it didn’t hold us back.

I love that this is family owned business that has a history in our area. And I particularly like it that they have donated Christmas trees for our troops stationed overseas. Trees for Troops is in its third year and expects to ship more than 20,000 fresh trees to troops and their families.

The Indiana Tree Growers Association is sending 210 trees, 110 of which are destined for Bahrain, packed in special wax-lined boxes so they do not dry out. FedEx has partnered with Trees for Troops to handle the shipping.

It was quick and easy to find our tree, cut it down, and haul it up to the stand for a good shaking and a wrap. Well, easy for me anyway. Then we Willi filled up the truck with firewood before we headed out.

So, you have probably guessed what my choice was for Green. I did not have a picture to describe Want except for this one that I found on the web. What I really want is for our troops to come home so they and their families can tromp through the fields to find their own Christmas tree.

I would love to go and buy a tree like this. It looks so much fun. I don’t think we have tree farms over here, they just magically appear in the stores all broken and droopy.

Happy Belated B-day. And it would be great if all soldiers every where could go home and stay home.

this is so nice, but yes it would be even nicer if all service men/women could be home

Great pictures! The snow and the live trees makes me miss the North. Yesterday we were all wearing t-shirts. Sure, that may SOUND like it’s nice. But when it’s half way through winter, it does nothing for your holiday spirit. Your “want” is especially heartwarming. I second the notion. It would be great to have all our boys home.

Green trees are just right for this time of the year. Your “want ” is also just right.

Nice photos, nice sentiment. Excellent post.

You are so lucky to have such a fantastic company doing awesome things for our troops! ! ! If I lived where you did, I’d buy 10 trees just to support them, so they could continue this awesome service!

    Cheers to FedEx too!

This post made my day. . . .
